If you need to dig straight down instantly, swapping to the Stab Shot drops a brutal vertical beam that completely cores out the earth from the sky limit straight down to bedrock. It essentially gives you the power to delete entire pieces of terrain and obliterate huge mob swarms without messing around with clunky TNT cannons.
